San Francisco priciest for summer city vacations
San Francisco has topped the latest TripAdvisor TripIndex survey as the priciest US destination for summer travel.
The annual TripIndex Cities survey looked at average costs of an evening out and overnight stay comparing prices for a hotel, cocktails, two course meal with wine and round-trip taxi fares.
San Francisco lead the way with a daily TripIndex cost of just under $508, which includes $380.92 for a hotel and $79.98 for dinner for two.
Next came New York City, at $501, followed by Boston at $491.
The most affordable summer in the city remains Las Vegas for the fourth year in a row, at a typical $276.03 per night.
Six of the 10 most affordable cities were in the south.
Of 20 US cities analyzed, research showed hotel rates have fallen in 15 of those cities since last year.
"Travelers are eager to get out and explore this summer, and with hotel prices in major U.S. and global cities down 6% and 7%, respectively, travelers will be able to find more affordable stays and dedicate a bigger chunk of their budgets to meals and entertainment," said, TripAdvisor director of communications Brooke Ferencsik.
The research also looked at costs in international cities with few major surprises.
Led by London at almost $520 a night, Europe filled seven places in the top 10 most expensive cities worldwide, while Asia was confirmed as the most affordable region.
