Scenic Eclipse operates first helicopter excursion to Antarctica penguin colony
Scenic Eclipse has operated its first helicopter excursion to view Antarctica’s Emperor penguin colony.
Following the start to the 2023/2024 Antarctica season, Scenic Eclipse’s crew, led by Captain Radomir Novosel and the Polar Discovery Team operated the flight for guests during a 13-day Antarctica in Depth voyage.
Guests landed on the Sea Ice near Snow Hill Island, located in the Weddell Sea.
It landed just one kilometre from the penguin colony which is home to over 4,000 breeding pairs.
Scenic Eclipse’s Ornithologist Dr. Maricel Grilli, who has been working with Scenic in Antarctica since 2020, led the expedition.
The dedicated crew followed all IAATO and biosecurity protocols during the excursion.
