School half-term boost for EasyJet
EasyJet recorded a “solid” performance last month as passenger numbers were boosted by the half-term school holidays.
The no-frills carrier saw monthly passenger number rise by 25% year-on-year to 2.4 million, with an improved load factor of 87% against 85.5% in October 2003. The rise came as the airline launched 18 new routes in the month.
The airline carried almost 25 million passengers in the year ending October, a 20% increase over the previous 12 months.
Chief executive Ray Webster said: “Last month produced another solid performance with an increase in our load factors, supported by the UK half-term school holidays which this year occurred during the month.”
He added that the improved performance came against the background of a “challenging market environment”.
Mr Webster, speaking two weeks after Icelandair took a 10% stake in the carrier, said: “Our low cost business model remains robust and we continue to capitalise on it.”
The airline’s preliminary results for the year to September are due to out on November 23.
