Scots man overboard from cruise ship, presumed dead
A cruise ship guest from Scotland is presumed deceased after going overboard during a Northern Europe cruise.
Liam Jones, 23 from Dundee was aboard MSC Euribia on a seven-night sailing.
When the ship docked in Southampton last week, it was met by police. They are investigating on behalf of the coroner’s office.
According to his family members onboard the ship at the time, the overboard incident was confirmed by CCTV footage.
“A passenger onboard MSC Euribia went overboard as the ship was sailing to Hamburg and was reported to the authorities,” MSC Cruises said.
“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will refrain from disclosing any additional information.”
MSC Euribia is sailing weekly Northern Europe cruises departing from several different departure ports including Hamburg and Southampton.
There has been a number of overboard incidents from MSC Cruises ships in recent weeks.
An elderly American guest fell into the water while the MSC World Europa was in port at Valetta, Malta.
There have been six incidents in the past four months.
