Sea-Tac Airport showcases new international arrivals facility
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport this month revealed a new international arrivals facility.
Aiming to be the best-connected airport in the world, the new facility elevates the passenger experience for travellers.
Notable features include increased gates and baggage carousels, an expanded aerial walkway which ascends 790ft (bigger than Seattleās most iconic attraction, the Space Needle), and facial recognition tech.
Speeding up processing time by 15 minutes, the facility will be the first in the US to offer a ābags firstā approach to improve tracking efficiency.
As one of the busiest airports in the country, the developments will increase throughput from 1,200 hourly passengers to 2,600 passengers per hour.
The airport also boasts vibrant artwork above the baggage claim area by artist Marela ZacarĆas.
Chalchiuhtlicue is a series of sculptures which were inspired by the water and colours of the Pacific Northwest, as well as the tribes who came before them.
Additionally, indigenous art from six Native American artists is installed throughout the facility.
All international flights are expected to be processed in the new building by mid-April, and the soft opening will continue throughout March and April.

"first in the US to offer a ābags firstā approach"? The old International Arrivals Building at San Francisco gave me my bags before I approached immigration - "bags first". That was in the 70s and on through the late 80s.
