Selling fall foliage cruises

The growing popularity of close-to-home vacationing and an expanded roster of Northeastern departure ports offer agents a growing opportunity to sell fall foliage cruises in New England and Canada.

Those factors, combined with historic sites and other attractions, “make fall foliage cruises an attractive choice for travelers,” according to Terry L. Dale, president and chief executive officer of the Cruise Lines International Association.

A sampling of fall foliage cruises where passengers enjoy the vivid red and gold colors that blaze throughout the area:

Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 visits New England and Canada on a 12-day Splendours of the Fall” itinerary that calls at Newport, Rhode Island, Portland, Maine, and Corner Brook, Newfoundland.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian crown offers fall foliage itineraries from 17 September to 17 October. The 11-day roundtrip cruises depart from Baltimore and travel the Cape Cod Canal before calling at Bar Harbor, Maine, and other ports.

Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Victory has four week-long roundtrip “fall foliage” cruises from New York in September. Ports of call include Boston, Portland, Maine and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Celebrity cruises/ Constellation’s first Canada/New England cruise departs New York 20 September and 1 October for 11-night roundtrip sailings. Port calls include Newport, Rhode Island, Bar Harbor, Main, and Quebec City, Canada.

Silversea Cruises Silver Whisper sails an eight-day “New England Medley” roundtrip cruise from New York 30 September, with calls at Oak Bluffs, Halifax, Boston and Newport, among others.
