Severe turbulence injures Ryanair passengers
A Ryanair continental flight to Milan was rocked by severe turbulence, which injured nine people.
It was forced to divert to southern Germany after departing Berlin.
It was carrying 179 passengers and six crew members.
The injured were eight passengers and a crew member Bavarian police said.
Three of these were taken to hospital in Memmingen for treatment.
The plane was grounded for inspection while the passengers were bussed to Milan which is about 230 miles waay.
“FR8 from Berlin diverted to Memmingen after experiencing some air turbulence. The captain called ahead for medical assistance and the aircraft landed normally,” the airline said.
“We sincerely apologise to passengers affected by this diversion.”
There had been warnings issued in the region for storm force winds and some homes in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, were damaged.
