Severe turbulence rocks Hawaii bound United flight
Severe turbulence injured seven people on a Hawaii-bound United Airlines flight at the weekend.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation said five of the injured – four flight attendants and one passenger – were taken to hospital after Flight 15 from Newark hit "sudden turbulence."
The passenger, a teenage girl from Newark, was said to be suffering a head injury and nausea.
"The flight encountered turbulence while traveling from Newark to Honolulu, and a few passengers and flight attendants sustained injuries. Our primary focus is helping our passengers and crew, and our flight safety team will review what happened," United Airlines said in a statement.
Bad weather was blamed and throughout Saturday, parts of Hawaii were under high-wind advisory, with strong winds knocking out power supplies.
During the day several flights were forced to divert from Maui to Honolulu.
