Sharm bombings fail to dent Egypt’s popularity
Egypt has moved up to become the third most popular winter sun destination for UK holidaymakers, latest figures show.
The country has moved up from fourth place this time last year despite the terrorist bombings in Sharm el Sheikh in the summer in which 11 Britons died out of a total of 63.
The statistics come from price comparison website Cheapflights based on the most searched-for destinations in November.
Gran Canaria remains the top winter sun choice, followed by Tenerife, Egypt and Goa.
Prague is the top short break options, followed by New York, Paris and Amsterdam.
The company’s business development director Liz Faherty said: “Despite a year with terrible terrorist acts at home and abraod, and unimaginable natural disasters, British tourists are staying loyal to both their holiday choices – and to their determination to take holidays.
“Their resolve, and supportive stance towards nations such as Egypt and the USA shines through in the statistics, with both destinations in the top four choices for holidays and short breaks respectively.”
