Short respite after yesterday’s storms hit rail, air and ferry passengers

Thursday, 13 Feb, 2014 0

Travellers are getting some respite from the severe weather today after flooding and gales disrupted rail, ferry and air travel yesterday.

But forecasters predict another Atlantic low could bring 80mph gales from Friday.

Yesterday rail operator Virgin asked  all customers to ‘abandon travel’ because of the storm and all trains out of London Euston were cancelled. Many rail services are still facing delays.

Flights struggled to operate with one Flybe aircraft caught on camera in the Daily Mail coming in to land  at Manchester Airport with its wing almost touching the runway.

The plane landed safely without any injuries.

Anpther aircraft parked at the gate in Shannon Airport for the night after arriving from Birmingham was lifted into the air by gusts of wind before falling on to the ground again, leaving substantial damage.

Flights out and into Shannon were cancelled yesterday due to heavy storms with gusts in excess of 80 knots.

Ferry services have also been hit by the adverse weather.

The Stena Line service between Rosslare and Fishguard, P & O service between Dublin and Liverpool and the Wightlink service between Portsmouth and Ryde have all been cancelled today.

All P&O’s Dover to Calais services are delayed by 45 minutes
