Shot British tourist had “beaten policeman”
A Thai police officer who reportedly shot dead two British tourists had been subject to a “vicious” beating minutes earlier, a court has heard.
As reported, backpackers Adam Lloyd and Vanessa Arscott were reported to have been shot dead by Somchai Wisetsingh in Kanchanaburi province, 100 miles north of the Thai capital Bangkok.
But, the Daily Telegraph reports, though many people have come forward to say they witnessed the policeman being beaten, none have been willing to say that they saw either tourist being shot dead – even if they admitted hearing gun shots.
All the witnesses reportedly said they had seen the officer admit the killings on television but all maintained that “the policeman had no choice because Adam Lloyd had looked down on him, spat on him and beat him”.
All agreed that the incident had been bad for Thailand’s tourism industry, according to the Telegraph. The case continues.
