170 final year students from top hotel school challenged to build sustainable strategic plans for ten Silk Road countries

UNWTO and the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) join forces to help development of sustainable tourism in Silk Road countries

On 4 June, 2012, 14.30 – 18.30 at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, EHL/UNWTO Silk Road Think Tank is to exchange ideas and stimulate discussions on the future of sustainable tourism in Silk Road countries

170 final year students from the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) are being challenged to build strong strategic plans for ten Silk Road countries through the EHL/UNWTO Silk Road Strategy Challenge.

Over the past seven weeks, EHL students have been attending lectures on contemporary strategic theory and researching decisions made by countries, destinations and corporations in the hospitality industry as part of their final course, Strategic Management.

With the support of tourism experts, these students will now apply this knowledge to develop outlines of 5-10 year strategic plans on how selected countries can position themselves along the Silk Road.

At the Think Tank, student representatives will present their strategic plans to an open audience, consisting of Ministry representatives, leading private sector players, EHL staff and UNWTO officials who will judge the final strategies and student presentations.
