Luxury cruise line Silversea will start sailing to Cuba from the US from next year.

It has scheduled 17 sailings for 2019 and 2020, beginning on Valentine’s Day next year when Silver Wind embarks on a seven-night voyage from San Juan to Fort Lauderdale.

It will call at the Cuban capital of Havana and Santiago de Cuba, as well as Bimini.

"Since opportunities have opened for Americans to enjoy travel to Cuba, we have eagerly awaited this moment," said CEO Roberto Martinoli.

"We are delighted to offer our guests the opportunity to discover the most authentic sights, sounds and flavours of its culture."

Silver Spirit will depart from San Juan on a 10-night voyage a week later with port calls in Cienfuegos and Havana along with an overnight in Santiago de Cuba.

The Silver Wind and Silver Whisper will also sail roundtrip itineraries from Fort Lauderdale in 2019, while an additional dozens sailings are planned in 2020.
