Simultaneous bus accidents injure 15 on same stretch of NZ road
Two buses both carrying Chinese tourists veered off the same section of road just seconds apart in New Zealand.
Fifteen passengers were taken to hospital, with two airlifted by helicopter.
Eight of these had moderate to minor injuries.
Several children were injured.
Both buses were travelling in the same direction on State Highway 8 and both slid off the road and overturned just 100 meters apart.
New Zealand police said it was during poor weather with freezing temperatures, dense fog, and black ice on the road.
It is a route popular with tourists on bus tours.
The location was between Lake Tekapo and the town of Twizel.
This part of the highway had been closed a few days ago after a previous accident in slippery conditions.
The NZ transport agency then issued a warning about dangerous driving conditions.
