Singapore Airlines and Indian conglomerate to launch new airline
Singapore Airlines and Indian business conglomerate Tata Sons have unveiled plans to form a new full-service airline based in New Delhi.
Tata Sons will own 51% and Singapore Airlines will own the remainder.
Tata Airways was India’s largest airline before the government nationalised it in 1953 and rebranded it Air India.
The government last year again began allowing private investment in India’s airline indiustry.
Now foreign carriers can own up to 49% interest in local airlines.
Tata in February also announced a joint venture to launch a low-cost airline with Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia.
