Singapore Airlines confirms billion dollar Boeing order
Singapore Airlines has firmed up an agreement to buy Boeing jets at a retail cost of nealy $14 billion.
SIA will buy 20 Boeing 777-9s and 19 787-10s with delivery of the aircraft beginning in 2020.
The true cost of the order is around half of the list price value, Reuters reports, based on usual bulk order discounts.
A letter of intent was signed between the two parties back in February 2017.
"SIA has been a Boeing customer for many decades and we are pleased to have finalized this major order for widebody aircraft, which will enable us to continue operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet," Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said in a statement.
"These new aircraft will also provide the SIA Group with new growth opportunities, allowing us to expand our network and offer even more travel options for our customers."
The 787-10 Dreamliners is an addition to a previous order for 30, which start arriving next year.
Singapore Airlines’ new B777 jets will be deployed mostly on key long-haul services with the Dreamliners plying medium range routes.
