Singapore increases ex-UK capacity
All three of Singapore Airlines’ daily flights from London to Singapore will be operated by Airbus A380s from June 1, the carrier announced today.
The airline already operates two A380 flights from Heathrow and the switch from a Boeing 777 to an A380 for the third daily flight will raise its capacity on the route by 17%.
British Airways announced today that the assembly of its first super-jumbo A380 has begun, with delivery expected next year.
BA has ordered 12 of the double-decker aircraft. It has also ordered 24 Boeing 787s, putting it on track to become the first airline with both of the newest aircraft types in its fleet.
Meanwhile Singapore Airlines has celebrated its last Boeing 747 flight, which flew from Singapore to Hong Kong. The jumbo jet has been phased out of the fleet to make way for more modern, more efficient jets.
