SKI: Rock band to play on top of mountain
Ageing rockers Deep Purple have confirmed they will play the end of season concert in the Austrian resort of Ischgl.
The gig will be held on April 30, the day before the resort closes.
"For a number of years now, major world stars of the music scene have been opening and closing the ski season in Ischgl," said tourist director Andreas Steibl.
"This year we have gone one step further to bring a true legend to the Silvretta Arena. Spring snow, 238 kms of slope and hard rock anthems at more than 2,300m – it doesn’t get more legendary than this!"
The band will join Ischgl’s Hall of Fame, which has seen Top Of The Mountain concerts by Elton John, Kylie Minogue, The Killers, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Rihanna and Pink.
Deep Purple set off on a world tour next month, taking in Australia, the US, Canada and Europe, playing hits such as Smoke On The Water, Black Night and Child In Time.
The lunchtime concert at Ischgl’s mountain-top arena at Idalp is included in the cost of the liftpass.
The arena can hold up to 20,000 people and is in a natural amphitheatre against the backdrop of the Silvretta Mountains.
