Slurp, slurp. There goes $480.
SYDNEY: It’s being hailed as the most luxurious tipple in Australasia – Hennessy’s A$10,000 per bottle Ellipse cognac.
Even a 2oz glass of the so-called “elixir of the gods” will set you back A$480.
There are only 2000 bottles of Hennessy Ellipse in the world and the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney has just one available – bottle No 12.
“This is what kings have drunk for centuries and what kings of hip hop now drink to end the perfect night,” said Sofitel’s French-born F&B director, Laurent Branover.
“Hennessy Ellipse is a spectacular vintage cognac – a time machine in a glass – and you must consider the history and complexity when you drink it.
“I call this the Ferrari of cognacs – if you aren’t rich enough to own a Ferrari you can at least taste the Ferrari lifestyle with a glass of Hennessy Ellipse, for as long as your glass or your wallet allows.”
Laurent says he is very proud that luxury brand LVMH chose Sofitel as the first and only hotel in Australia where Hennessy Ellipse would be available and says he looks forward to welcoming connoisseurs from around the world to taste this supreme cognac.
Ellipse includes the top-ranked cognac of each of Hennessy’s seven master blenders since their first master blender, Jean Fillioux, and creates a bouquet with hints of candied fruits, wild roses and an earthy aroma from perfect aging.
Each master blender noted the most exceptional vintage eau-de-vie of his time: the 1830, 1848, 1875, 1932, 1947, 1972 and 1995 and Hennessy Ellipse comprises these vintages in a masterful blend that has an excellent long finish on the palate.
It is presented in an elliptical Baccarat crystal decanter designed by Thomas Bastide.
Hennessy Ellipse is available at the Sofitel’s Lobby Lounge for $480 per glass – but only until the bottle is finished.
So don’t miss out – it’s cheaper than buying a Ferrari.
