Heavy snow and blizzards are likely to disrupt travel plans this weekend, according to the met office, which has issued weather warnings for much of the UK.
A yellow alert is in place between noon on Saturday to 10am on Sunday morning, warning of snow, ice and freezing rain for much of northern England and Scotland.
The regions affected are: Central, Tayside & Fife; East Midlands; Grampian; Highlands & Eilean Siar; North East England; North West England; SW Scotland, Lothian Borders; Strathclyde; Yorkshire & Humber.
The weather could disrupt flights and train services, especially across northern England and southern Scotland.
A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said: "Snow accumulation in the British Isles is expected to be about 7cm on the Pennines with 12cm on Scotland Highlands in blizzard conditions."
