Snow storm disrupts transatlantic flights
A snow storm in the US was continuing to disrupt transatlantic flights from the east coast today.
Flights from New York, Baltimore, Boston and Washington are operating, but with delays of an average of one to two hours.
More than 727 flights were cancelled in the US yesterday, with the biggest disruptions in the mid Atlantic and Northeast, such as Washington, Baltimore and the Carolinas.
New York airports were also affected with about 8% of scheduled flights grounded at LaGuardia airport and 8% cancelled at Newark, according to airline tracking website, Flight Aware.
Most of the cancellations were made pre-emptively – with more than 350 of Monday’s cancellations being made on Sunday in anticipation of the bad weather.
Flights had also been affected on Sunday when 480 flights were cancelled – nearly 270 flights at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport – and 3,506 were delayed within, into or out of the United States. Transatlantic flights from Chicago appear to operating with only minimal delays today.
