Snow storms hit Greece
Snow storms continued to batter Athens, Attica and many Greek islands last night and this morning.
Yesterday ferry services were suspended from the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina, many roads were closed in the capital and a handful of islands lost power.
Today, despite the snow still falling, there is a limited service from Piraeus but schools are closed and residents have been told to stay home where possible.
The snow struck at the end of a bank holiday in Greece, with many Greeks heading home from a weekend away.
The islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissus, Andros and Tinos are still experiencing severe power failures that could take until Friday to restore. Parts of mainland Greece are also seeing power cuts.
But there is some good news. A planned public services strike set for today has been cancelled to ease the plight of the shivering citizens of Greece.
Flights are operating as normal out of Athens International Airport.
The cold weather is expected to ease off this evening.
