Southwest Airlines in big California expansion
Southwest Airlines has announced a significant expansion across California with sevearal new routes.
New daily nonstop service begins from April 8, 2018 with new routes out of San Jose to Boise, Idaho, Spokane, St. Louis and Houston Hobby.
The airlines will also start Orlando flights from San Jose starting May 6, 2018.
Sacramento also gets three new routes to St. Louis, Austin and Orlando and a new San Francisco-Austin service begins April 8.
"Number one, the economy is strong there, so that increases the demand for air travel, Secondly, there are just unserved routes. These are connecting dots. We’re flying from these California cities to other cities where we’re also the hometown airline," said Andrew Watterson, Southwest’s executive vice president and chief revenue officer.
Southwest is also increasing frequencies on many existing routes and adding weekly international flights to Mexican vacation destinations.
New seasonal nonstop Saturday service will be offered from both San Jose and Sacramento to Cabo San Lucas and twice weekly between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta.
