Southwest Airlines president Tom Nealon steps down
Southwest Airlines President Tom Nealon has abruptly resigned with immediate effect after failing to get the top job. Nealon was recently passed over for the CEO job when the airline announced Bob Jordan as CEO Gary Kelly’s successor from early next year.
Chief Operating Officer Mike Van de Ven is being promoted to President to replace Nealon. Nealon had been at Southwest for a decade and previously held seniot positions at J.C. Penney and Frito-Lay.
