Southwest Airlines rolls out assigned seating
Southwest Airlines this week officially began selling fares with assigned seating.
Travelers can now choose their seats in advance for an extra fee.
Options available include selecting seats with extra legroom.
All other passengers will get their seat assigned at the time of check in.
It’s a fundamental change for the airline, which famously had open seating as well as the ‘bags fly free’ policy.
The baggage policy has also recently changed with most passengers paying for the privilege now.
With the onset of assigned seating, the boarding process will also change.
Boarding will be done by group, based on various factors like frequent flyer status and a fare that includes preferred boarding.
