Southwest plane lands at wrong airport
A Southwest Airlines flight landed at the wrong airport – just seven miles from its intended destination.
The aircraft, carrying more than 124 passengers and five crew, was scheduled to go from Chicago’s Midway International Airport to Branson Airport in Missouri but instead landed at smaller Taney County Airport.
The runway was shorter and passengers described the landing as abrupt and said "the pilot applied the brakes really strongly".
Passengers were kept on board for about 75 minutes before the doors opened. They were then bussed to the correct airport.
A Southwest spokesman could not explain why the plane had landed at the county-owned airport, which serves charters and corporate flights, but said: "Our ground crew from the Branson airport has arrived at the airport to take care of our customers and their baggage.
"The landing was uneventful, and all customers and crew are safe."
The flight was scheduled to go from Chicago to Branson, and then on to Dallas.
