Spain backs Lowcost relocation
Lowcostholidays has enlisted the backing of the Spanish authorities to allay fears over consumer protection following its move to Palma.
The company announced last month it would move its head office to Palma, Majorca.
It issued a statement saying it was granted a full travel agency and tour operators licence under Spanish and Balearic law (licence number AVBAL/636) and "will sell holidays from its European subsidiary with full package protection".
Balaerics secretary general of tourism Don Carlos Delgado, said: "We are delighted to welcome Lowcostholidays to the Balearic Islands and the establishment of its European centre in Palma, Majorca.
"The investment in jobs, technology and infrastructure shows great confidence in one of the leading tourism economic areas.
"Lowcostholidays is now fully licensed under Spanish and Balearic Law, which implements the EU Council Package Travel Directive (90/314/EEC), and complies entirely with all relevant financial protection arrangements, obligations and liability insurance requirements.
"Lowcostholidays has created over 100 jobs in Palma and we look forward to a long term and successful relationship with the company."
Lowcost CEO Paul Evans said: "The support and enthusiasm we have received from the Spanish and Balearic authorities was a major contributing factor for the Lowcosttravelgroup’s board in deciding the base for this business."
