Spanish bust-up sees carrier reduce Barcelona Girona flights

Ryanair is to dump 18 of its 64 routes and reduce 17 other services out of Barcelona Girona after falling out with the new Catalan government.
The low-cost carrier has confirmed that its five-year extension with the airport, agreed in December with an outgoing administration, has been cancelled.
The agreement was that Ryanair would base 11 aircraft at Girona, operate 64 routes and deliver four million passengers a year.
The carrier will reduce its operations from the end of February, taking five aircraft out of service, and anticipates a fall in traffic from 4m to 2.3m. It will switch the planes to another “lower cost” airport.
It will drop its London Gatwick service and reduce frequency on its Birmingham route.
