Speakman offers advice on ATOL changes
Travel Counsellors founder and chairman David Speakman is to give advice to independent agents who may be struggling with new ATOL rules that came into effect this week.
He will be offering help on navigating the changes at a series of roadshows taking place round the country next week.
The events are taking place next week at the Radisson Manchester (April 7), Crowne Plaza Birmingham (April 8), London Hilton Heathrow (April 9) and Glasgow Hilton (April 10).
Independent agents who want to tailor make holidays may be finding it difficult to grasp the implications of the new rules and regulations while also dealing with the day to day demands of running their own business, according to the company.
Speakman said: “I previously ran my own chain of high street agents and I know how difficult it would be to try to get to grip with these changes while also dealing with everything else involved in operating a successful high street business.
“We have spent a long time working out the implications of the new ATOL rules and how best to implement them and are more than happy to take questions and pass on any of our experience to agents who want to carry on tailor making holidays for their clients but who might be struggling with the changes.â€
Travel Counsellors has run online training for its agents, run updates on its Travel Counsellors TV (TCTV) weekly webcast, and has put together diagrams and charts which can be downloaded.
When its agents tailor make a holiday in the company’s Phenix system they do not have to pass on the new APC charge to the customer, according to Travel Counsellors.
