Spirit Airlines says days of canceled flights will have $50 million impact
Spirit Airlines says its days-long meltdown will cost the business about $50 million. Between July 30 and August 9, the airline canceled more than 2,800 flights, stranding thousands of fliers. It blamed the problems on various issues including bad weather and airport staff shortages.
Spirit president and CEO Ted Christie called it ‘an unprecedented confluence of factors and does not reflect systemic issues.’ It has also suffered much higher than normal cancellations and forward booking volumes have weakened, it said in a filing.
