Spring Airlines adopts UnionPay
Chinese carrier Spring Airlines is now fully accepting UnionPay cards from Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong,
The payment method can be used on the Spring Airlines website.
It comes just in time for the upcoming Spring Festival peak travel period.
The adoption covers multiple currencies including Japanese yen, US dollars, Hong Kong dollars, Korean won, Thai baht, New Taiwan dollars, and Singapore dollars, among others.
There are over 230 million UPI cardholders in 81 countries and regions globally.
Mr. Jia Li, GM of Financial Payment for Spring Airlines, said: “By joining hands with UnionPay we aim to provide domestic and international travellers with more payment options, as well as a safer and more efficient payment experience.”
UnionPay payment products cover card, QR code, contactless, and online payment.
Over 180 local wallets have been launched in 35 countries and regions.
Spring Airlines is China’s first low-cost airline exclusively operated by private capital and the first low-cost airline established by a travel agency.
It has a fleet of about 116 Airbus A320 series aircraft, flying to destinations in China, Southeast and Northeast Asia. It operates more than 210 routes.
