St Patrick’s G’Day Down Under

Wednesday, 19 Mar, 2013 0

St. Patrick’s Day 2013 saw new greenings in Australia   joining a host of other major landmarks and iconic sites around the world in Tourism Ireland’s annual ‘global greening’ initiative.

For the first time ever, The Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney, which is a significant monument in Irish history and genealogy in Australia, was lit up in green.

And for the third time the Sydney Opera House went green.

Another  ‘icon’ that went green last weekend was Sir Richard Branson.

In a major coup for Irish tourism, Sir Richard, on his private Neckar island, dyed his beard and eyelashes green and the Virgin website was given a green hue

Sir Richard also tweeted a photo of his greened beard to his three million followers.

The iconic Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx turned green, along with Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, the London Eye, Niagara Falls, the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, Burj al Arab in Dubai, Anfield stadium in Liverpool and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
