Star doesn’t shine on Air India
Air India’s hopes of joining the Star Alliance have been put on the back burner.
Air India has conceded it had not met the minimum alliance joining conditions outlined in a contract signed in December 2007.
The decision followed a review of the status of Air India’s application at a weekend meeting held between the airline, the Indian Ministry for Civil Aviation, and Star Alliance CEO, Jaan Albrecht.
Albrecht said it was a “collective decision to put integration on hold†and that “member carriers will continue to provide assistance to Air India wherever requiredâ€.
Existing bilateral relationships between Star Alliance member airlines and Air India are not affected by this decision.
