Stephen Fry knocks P&O Cruises’ historic event
Actor Stephen Fry put a damper on P&O Cruise ‘Five Ships Spectacular’ event in Australia when he took to social media to complain that the company was ‘polluting Sydney Harbour’.
All five P&O ships had sailed into Sydney for the naming of the newest addition to the fleet, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden.
It was the biggest ever gathering of a cruise fleet in the Harbour and large crowds gathered to party into the evening to 20 live music acts and 10 DJs perform on the decks.
But part-way through the historic party, Fry Tweeted: "Now @POcruises polluting Sydney Harbour with more than just their ugly liners: music of the most hideous kind imaginable is vomiting out."
His Tweet clearly struck a chord with many other social media users as it was re-tweeted more than 100 times within three hours and was given a ‘heart’ symbol (the digital equivalent of a thumbs-up) by nearly 600 users.
Nevertheless, P&O Cruises Australia claimed the show had been …well…spectacular. It Tweeted "2nite was the biggest and brightest Bianco White Party at sea, ever. What a way to end our P&O #5Ship Spectacular.
