Strikes force Lufthansa to cancel almost half of long-haul flights
Lufthansa has cancelled almost half of its long-haul flights as a result of strike action today.
Pilots, who are unhappy about plans to phase out an early-retirement scheme. are going on strike until midnight tonight.
It’s the second time in a week the airline has been hit by strikes, and the 10th since April.
The airline said passengers can change or cancel their flight free of charge.
All Lufthansa short and medium – haul flights as well as flights operated by the Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti) will not be affected.
Lufthansa has offered to meet with the pilots and hopes to resolve the dispute in time for Christmas.
