Strong cruise “wave season”
With increased capacity, abundance of discount promotions, and a cold winter, this years “wave season” (January-March) bookings may set sales records.
The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) had reported earlier in the year bookings to be higher than pre-9/11 Wave Season levels with ships filling up.
A trend for cruise line bookings include the destinations in the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska, says Julia Ryan, vice president of Travelers Advantage and Travelersadvantage.com.
Cruise tours that add a land expedition are also increasingly popular, particularly in Alaska, according to Ms Ryan.
Europe is also popular in this “wave season” of bookings, she added. “First-time visitors to Europe also find cruise tours especially helpful in making sure they don’t miss any destination highlights.”
Additionally, European cruises provide value versus land-based travel because travel expenses including food, lodging and entertainment are fixed in dollars.
Travelers Advantage offers discounted cruise prices to dues-paying members.
