Strong first half for Emirates Group
Emirates Group has posted a 68% increase in first-half profit as passenger traffic rose.
Net income climbed to USD575 million for the six months ended September 30 from USD343 million a year earlier.
Seat factor increased to 80%, while revenue and other operating income rose 17% to USD10.4 billion.
Emirates Group includes Emirates airline and ground-handling unit Dnata.
Net income at the main Emirates airline unit more than doubled to USD464 million, while profit at Dnata fell 4% to $111 million, according to an Emirates Group statement.
Meanwhile, flag carrier Philippine Airlines has asked the country’s Civil Aeronautics Board to reject the petition of Emirates to add several additional flight frequencies between Dubai and Manila.
Emirates hopes to increase weekly flights between Manila and Dubai from 14 to 21, effective January 1, 2013.
