Supersonic jet touts three-hour flying time from LA to Tokyo
Florida based plane maker Aerion is planning supersonic commercial air service that could fly passengers between Los Angeles and Tokyo in under three hours.
The Aerion AS3 is a Mach 4+ commercial jet seating up to 50 passengers. It hopes to be in service by the end of the decade. Aerion recently expanded its partnership with NASA’s Langley Research Center, to focus on commercial flight at high Mach speeds of up to 3,800 miles per hour.
It is even planning hybrid-electric supersonic planes. Aerion is currently building a new global headquarters near Orlando Melbourne Airport.
