Suspect charged in Fiji cabin crew assault
A man has been charged with the rape of a Virgin Australia crew member in Fiji.
The alleged offence happened while crew were on a night out on New Year’s Eve during a layover.
The man faces one count each of rape and sexual assault and is due in court today in Nadi.
Another Virgin Australia crew member was allegedly assaulted and robbed the same night.
A group of Virgin Australia flight crew members were out celebrating the New Year in Nadi.
Virgin Australia hasn’t commented yet, although airline officials have flown to Fiji to support the crew members.
Fijian MP Ketan Lal said it is concerning for Fiji as a tourist destination.
“Such incidents tarnish Fiji’s reputation as a safe and hospitable place, It highlights the urgent need for a thorough investigation and justice,” he said.
