Sustainable Travel International to launch global EcoCertification programme
Sustainable Travel International, the US not-for-profit organisation, has announced plans to launch a Sustainable Tourism EcoCertification programme (STEP) globally in the next few months.
It will be offering a new TravelGreen initiative for hoteliers and is also in the process of launching the first industry specific, web-based custom carbon calculator program with the likes of the World Wildlife Fund, Ben & Jerry’s, G.A.P. Adventures and other organisations.
The Sustainable Travel International London office will be open by this summer.
STI has been offering Carbon Offsets in collaboration with the Swiss-based MyClimate and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
It pioneered web-based travel-specific carbon calculaters.
STI President Brian Mullis said: “This is only the beginning. Through collaboration and with backing from our supports, members and sponsors, we remain focused on our primary goal – to mainstream the concept of sustainable tourism development within the travel and tourism industry.”<
