Suvarnabhumi Airport : easy come, easy go
Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport has improved ground transportation options to and from the new airport makeing traveling the approximately 15 miles into Bangkok as convenient as possible. This is very welcome news for business travelers, meetings and events planners, and anyone visiting Thailand.
International passengers arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) will now have access to new and improved ground transportation options in getting to their final destination. The new airport will still have taxi and limo services available, plus a free 24 hours/7 days per week shuttle bus service into Bangkok. These ground transportation options are all located at the Transportation Center in the airport.
“It will be extremely apparent to everyone traveling through the new airport, that ground transportation to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport will be easier and more convenient than traveling to and from the 90-year-old Don Muang Airport”, said Mr. Chotisak Asapaviriya, President of Airport of Thailand (AOT).
In addition, Mr. Asapaviriya noted that “it should now take less than 30 minutes to go by car between Bangkok and the airport, as the airport is just fifteen miles east of the city, and with a 10-lane super highway, we can boast of having a modern highway connection with direct access between the city and the airport.” In addition, the eight-lane Burabha Withee expressway provides travelers the option to enter the airport entrance from the opposite direction.
Future plans include the completion of a state-of-the art light rail system that will connect the new airport into the center of Bangkok. Expected to be completed in 2007, travelers, the light rail system will provide travelers visiting Thailand with the opportunity to ride the rails into the country’s capital. The new Airport Rail Link will feature a direct express train that will take just 15 minutes between the Makkasan train station and the airport. Another train will make eight stops throughout the city, taking 30 minutes to travel to the airport and linking with both the subway and Skytrain systems in Bangkok.
Bangkok’s New Suvarnabhumi Airport officially opens for international flights and all commercial services on September 28th. Once open, it will be the most modern and efficient airport facility in the world.
