Taiwan tour agencies accused of cheating Siem Reap hotels

Several Taiwanese travel agencies are facing a criminal complaint in Cambodia after failing to pay bills at 20 hotels and restaurants.

Twenty different businesses in Siem Reap say the unnamed agencies owe a total of about US$2 million and have referred it to the Cambodian ministry of tourism to intervene.

"Travel agencies from Taiwan booked rooms in 20 hotels and restaurants but never paid. They just disappeared. Based on tourism regulations, the victims have a right to file a complaint and now the ministry will take proper action," ministry spokesman Top Sopheak, told the Khmer Times.

The ministry said the agencies had being working with the hotels and restaurants for some time and seemingly without any payment issues.
