Tamworth goes equine……..no that is not a new country music star!
Tamworth, traditionally the Australian home of country music has announced that it is set to also become the home of Australia’s horse and potentially beef industry with the building of a $25m world class Australian Equine and Livestock Centre.
All levels of Government are involved in the centre, which has a completion date of 2008 and will seat up to 5,000 spectators, stable 500 horses and provide parking for over 200 cars.
Gail Richie, Project Manager for the AELS told The Mole, “This is project that has risen out of the pastures of Northern New South Wales, having been in the making for some time and is the culmination of many years of very hard work.”
“The way I think of it is in comparison to the Sydney Opera House rising out of Sydney Harbour”! ” This will be the largest equine centre in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the biggest investments ever made in a country town in Australia.”
“It is also critical in securing Tamworth’s position as a leading entertainment centre, not only for country music, for which we are known globally, but now also for horses and all that is associated with them.” “We are already the home for Futurity, the amazing Aussie championship for cutting horses, which attracts many thousands every year, the Australian Bushman’s Campdraft and the Rodeo Association National Finals and a host of international, national and state championships and the construction of AELC is logical extension to these amazing events and our level of excellence in events.”
