TAT promotes Nakhon Si Thammarat
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is teaming up with the Southern Thai province of Nakhon Si Thammarat to promote the region as an off the beaten path natural haven.
It will see public and private sector promotion with new tour packages.
It comes as enhanced infrastructure is set to open with a new international terminal opening at Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport in late 2023.
Direct flights are expected from Singapore, Taiwan, China, and Malaysia in the near future.
Dubbed ‘the green lungs of Thailand’ it is noted for pristine nature.
“Nakhon Si Thammarat sells nature in abundance. There are 200km of mountains, 200km of sandy beaches and perfect air quality,” said Governor Apinan Phuakphong.
“In future, we will also develop the medical and wellness sector, further leveraging our natural heritage.”
Until now, the area has been mostly a gateway to offshore islands Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan.
“Our focus is nature and community. We feel it will appeal to Thais and international visitors now more than ever before, said Pitsinee Tatniyom, TAT’s regional director.
In cooperation with TAT, specialist tour operators have unveiled new itineraries for Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Tarzan Adventure recently launched a dragon’s back-style trekking program into Khao Luang National Park.
The park is home to Thailand’s second highest mountain.
It also features the 1.7km long Hong Cave and the 19-tier Karom Waterfall.
It is also the habitat for leopards, tapirs and porcupines.
The province is just an hour’s flight from Bangkok.
