Tata Group backed Indian Hotels Co. Ltd plans a major expansion at home and overseas over the next five years with 10 new hotels under its Vivanta by Taj luxury brand.

Speaking at the latest hotel opening at Dwarka in Delhi, COO of IHC Veer Vijay Singh said: “We have 6,000 rooms in our 40 hotels at present and we will add 2,000 rooms globally over the next five years,”

IHC operates Vivanta by Taj resorts in Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Malaysia, and also hopes to expand to the Middle East and Africa.

“We will be opening one Vivanta property in Dubai in the next three years and we are actively looking at the African market to expand,” Singh said.

Domestically, two hotels of about 150 rooms each are earmarked for Guwahati and Amritsar.

The Vivanta by Taj brand was launched in September 2010 initially with a portfolio of 19 hotels.
