Teen arrested for time bomb alarm clock in carry-on bag

A Canadian teen has learnt the hard that it is probably not a good idea to travel through airport security with an alarm clock designed to resemble sticks of dynamite.

The 15-year old was attempting to travel to Vancouver from Toronto Pearson airport when screeners spotted the prank item in his carry-on bag and promptly evacuated the area for over two hours.

"The explosive disposal unit attended and they deemed the item was not real," said police spokesman George Tudos.

"However, it still caused a two-hour delay at the airport and he was charged with ‘mischief.’ I guess it was bad judgement on behalf of that party to think it would be okay to travel to an international airport with that device,"

"The moral of the story is to make sure the items you pack are allowed on a plane. I mean, what did he think was going to happen if he packed something like this?" Tudos added.

The teen is due to appear in court in October.

CBC News pointed out that the alarm clock looks very similar to items sold by Minneapolis based Nootropic Design.

The company has a disclaimer posted on its website: "Dear pranksters, this kind of device can make people freak out and call the authorities. So don’t bring this to school or to work, and certainly don’t bring it anywhere near an airport!"
