Teenager killed in South Australia shark attack
A teenager has been killed in a shark attack on a popular Australia beach.
The 15-year old was attacked near Ethel Beach in the Innes National Park in South Australia.
He was identified as Khai Cowley, a talented local surfer.
“Sadly, the body of a 15-year-old boy from Maslin Beach was recovered from the water,” South Australia Police said.
Another surfer who witnessed it and went to help, said a great white shark was responsible.
The boy was with his father who witnessed the shark attack.
It was the fifth shark attack in South Australia during 2023, and the third fatality.
Surfer Tod Gendle was killed in November by a four-metre great white shark near Granite Rock, South Australia.
Earlier in the year, teacher Simon Baccanello, 46, was killed at Walkers Rock beach near Elliston.
The Australian shark incident database says there have been over 50 recorded shark attack incidents in South Australia.
