Teletext Holidays responds to CMA threat of legal action
Teletext Holidays has responded after competition watchdog Competition and Markets Authority threatened to take the company to court over delays in refunding customers.
The CMA said it ‘must comply with the law’ after parent company Truly Holdings, signed an undertaking to process all refunds by the end of August.
However it says refunds worth a total of £600,000 remain unpaid.
"The company is working as hard as it can to process the remaining refunds due under the Package Travel Regulations to our remaining customers." the company said.
It said 92% of customers have received refunds.
It had a total of £7.79m in refunds for 6,431 customers.
"The remaining customers have not been refunded because they have not provided us with their bank details. They have all been contacted repeatedly by email and telephone so that their bank details can be obtained and the refund paid."
We have also published a Covid-19 refunds page on our website with a webform and an email address for customers to contact us. Unfortunately, these customers have not responded," it said in a statement.
"We have engaged in a constructive dialogue with the CMA as to how best to engage with those customers who have, to date, failed to provide us with their bank details."
The action by the CMA was welcomed by Which?
"We have received countless complaints from Teletext Holidays customers who have been battling for refunds for cancelled holidays. It’s hugely concerning that Teletext has not yet paid all outstanding refunds to its customers and it’s still failing to comply with the 14 day period required by law," said Rory Boland, Which? Travel Editor.
