Texas-sized people mover makes getting around easier
Skylink, the world’s largest airport people mover, began rolling at DFW International Airport in Texas.
Skylink zips passengers in both directions at speeds up to 35 miles an hour on its elevated guideways. The system can now handle about 5,000 passengers per hour, but that will be expanded to 8,000 passengers in the future.
Skylink train cars are connected to airport terminals via almost 5 miles of guideways, elevated an average of 50-feet.
An average ride time on Skylink is estimated at five minutes.
The system at the world’s third busiest airport took three years to complete.
Airport administrators say the system eliminates a lot of walking and makes it far easier for visitors to access other areas of the airport during long layovers.
