Thai beach declared disaster area after oil slick
A Thai Provence declared a state of emergency over a large offshore oil slick just as Thailand readies to restart the Test & Go quarantine-free tourism program.
The oil slick has shut down restaurants and shops on a beach in Rayong and there are concerns it could reach the tourist island of Koh Samet. About 20-50 tons of oil are estimated to have leaked into the sea. Rayong Gov. Channa Iamsaeng declared the beach a disaster area and closed it to swimmers and other activities.
